Florida residents who choose to sit out Helene will be asked to write names and information on their arm. Here are the details

TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. — As Hurricane Helene heads toward Florida's Big Bend, one county has a sobering message for residents who choose to ride out the storm.

In a social media post, the Taylor County Sheriff's Office – Division of Emergency Management – asked residents to write their names, birthdays and important information on an arm or leg with a permanent marker so they can be “identified and the family can be notified”.

Additionally, residents are asked to provide information to help search and rescue teams prioritize locations.

Due to the ongoing hurricane and rapidly deteriorating conditions, a mandatory evacuation order has been issued for all Taylor County residents. News 6's Erik Sandoval is in the county and says so far it looks like residents are heeding the warnings.

Helene is expected to make landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida on Thursday evening. After landfall, Helene is expected to turn northwest and slow over the Tennessee Valley on Friday and Saturday.
