Bella Trezza, 17, of Babylon, dies from her injuries in a weekend accident

A 17-year-old girl from Babylon died after her car was struck by a driver who ran a red light early Saturday morning, police said.

Bella Trezza, 17, was driving a 2025 Kia Seltos around 1 a.m. Saturday when her car was struck by a 2017 Kia sedan that failed to stop at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Great East Neck Road, the said Police with.

St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School announced the death of Trezza, who was a student there, Thursday morning. According to police, she died on Wednesday night.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved senior Bella Trezza,” the school announced.

The crash killed the driver of the sedan, Michael Desmond, 33, of Lindenhurst, and a passenger in the Seltos, Riley Goot, 18, of Babylon.

Three other Babylon teenagers were also injured in the crash and were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

A funeral for Goot is planned for Thursday morning.

St. John School officials spoke to students Thursday morning and sent letters home to parents. They said counselors, clergy and support services will be available for students, staff and others who need assistance.

“Bella was a beloved member of our school community and her loss is deeply felt by all who knew her,” school officials said in a letter to the community. The school will “provide an opportunity for our school community to gather in prayer and honor Bella’s life.”
