Former UFC champion recalls hallucinating mid-fight after being beaten

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping gave some interesting insights into his 2012 duel with his ex-UFC colleague Chael Sonnen.

Bisping and Sonnen competed in the co-main event of UFC on Fox: Evans vs. Davis in January 2012, showcasing a thrilling showdown between Britain and America. The fight lived up to the hype, and Sonnen ultimately secured the victory, reportedly giving Bisping an out-of-body experience in the process.

“He brought me down, I tried to get back on my feet. Bang. He hits me with a really good shot,” said Bisping during an appearance on Sky television Rob & Romesh vs. “I swear to God, this isn’t a joke. For a moment I was transported, I was in the middle of a field, on a bike, cycling through a field, golden flowers everywhere.

“All of a sudden I come back to it and I'm like, 'I'm in the damn Octagon!'

Fans of Ridley Scott's Gladiator may notice striking similarities to Russell Crowe's character Maximus, who splits up and runs through a wheat field before dying in the arena.

What Bisping experienced may be a temporary altered state of consciousness brought on by Sonnen's concussive blow. It could also have been a lightning knockout that sent Bisping into a dream state, only to be reawakened by more punches from Sonnen.
