Little Rock woman arrested, accused of defrauding Medicaid for husband's care | The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Agents from Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin's office arrested a Little Rock woman earlier this month accused of defrauding Medicaid by receiving payments for services she provided to her husband, according to a news release dated Thursday.

Authorities arrested Charlotte Dedmon, 48, on Sept. 19 on charges of Medicaid fraud, the release said. Officials said Dedmon married a Medicaid recipient and then billed the state $5,898 for his care as a caregiver.

When the provider Dedmon was working with told her she couldn't serve as a paid caregiver for her husband, she switched to another provider and kept the relationship secret, the statement said.

“I congratulate my office’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit for ensuring the arrest of someone who stole from the hardworking taxpayers of Arkansas,” Griffin said in a statement accompanying the news release. “A nurse cannot marry a Medicaid recipient and then bill the state for the services.”
