The fight to get the KC-46 to Key Field continues, Meridian is officially in the running

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – The U.S. Air Force has declared that Meridian is officially in the running to become the future home of the new KC-46 aircraft, according to Senator Roger Wicker. According to the USAF, the field of participants has now shrunk to seven cities.

Members of the Mississippi delegation have now released statements regarding this next step.

Key Field is already home to the KC-135 fleet. Meridian is also home to the aerial refueling system. This addition of the KC-46 would attract dozens of families and provide a major economic boost to East Mississippi.

The current 186th Air Refueling Squadron can also already accommodate the new, much larger aircraft, making the move much more affordable than many other bases across the country.
