WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, September 26, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – Three people were injured, one fatally, following a car accident at Snow Canyon State Park.

Emergency medical personnel called to the scene of the accident near the Lava Tubes parking lot just before 10 p.m. Wednesday had to use recovery tools to free all three occupants from the severely damaged vehicle, Santa Clara-Ivins Fire and Rescue said online Thursday.

One of the three was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were flown by Life Flight rescue helicopters to St. George Regional Medical Center, according to the release. The Washington County Accident Reconstruction Team worked at the scene.

A spokesman for Utah State Parks told Gephardt Daily that the deceased was a 19-year-old man and the driver lost control on a curve, resulting in a rollover in the state park's lava fields . Excessive speed was believed to be a factor, said Eric Stucki of the State Parks Law Enforcement Division.

Stucki said the two passengers were 18-year-old females, one being transported in serious condition and the other in critical condition with potentially life-threatening injuries.

According to Santa Clara-Ivins, a total of 27 emergency medical personnel responded to the incident, including four ambulances and the two rescue helicopters.
