Arrest in connection with mid-September crash on US 33 in Ligonier

LIGONIER, Ind. (WPTA) – Indiana State Police (ISP) say an arrest has been made in connection with a high-speed crash on US 33 in Ligonier that injured five people in mid-September.

According to ISP, 23-year-old Ethan Aza of Warsaw was arrested Thursday at his Cromwell home on the following preliminary criminal charges:

  • resisting police with a vehicle, resulting in death;
  • resisting police with a vehicle resulting in serious bodily injury;
  • driving while intoxicated resulting in death;
  • driving while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury;
  • resisting law enforcement causing bodily harm;
  • and driving a vehicle without ever obtaining a license.

Aza was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Noble County Jail where he is being held without bail.

ISP also said Thursday that one of the five people injured in the mid-September crash, 37-year-old Justin Yoder of Goshen, who was a passenger in the Nissan Rouge SUV, has now died.
