Woman arrested for alleged aggravated arson following fire in residential building

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A suspect was arrested on aggravated arson charges after crews responded to a heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of an apartment building Thursday evening.

The cause of the fire at 716 SW Polk St. was determined to be a fire following a brief investigation by the Topeka Police Department (TPD) and Topeka Fire Department (TFD). The incident occurred just after 5:23 p.m

Topeka police then arrested Alisha M. Doty for aggravated arson.

The estimated damage from the fire was $25,000. There were no immediate reports of injuries. Crews quickly extinguished the fire while limiting any damage to the structure where the fire originated.

Assisting agencies included the Topeka Police Department, American Medical Response, Kansas Gas and Evergy.

The entire on-site response consisted of three engine companies, a truck company, an air company and three chief officers.
