Police locate the wanted suspect in an animal cruelty case caught on camera

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu police have located and identified the woman wanted on camera in an animal cruelty case in Waipahu.

HPD, CrimeStoppers and the Hawaiian Humane Society thanked the public for their assistance in identifying the suspect accused of hitting a dog multiple times.

The incident took place on Upai Street and was captured on surveillance video around 1pm on September 26.

The disturbing video shows the woman not only hitting the dog, but also aggressively yanking it into the air by its neck and shaking it as it dangles above the ground.

Although her name was not released, police identified the suspect as a 49-year-old woman.

Honolulu CrimeStoppers said the woman has been issued a citation and a court date.

Meanwhile, officials confirmed the dog was taken into protective custody.
