The West St. Paul shelter in place was lifted Thursday night after police took a man into custody.

West St. Paul police said they responded to a report of a man with a gun in the area of ​​Emerson Avenue and Langer Circle Thursday evening.

At the scene, officers learned that the man was in a nearby home where there may have been children.

The people inside were safely evacuated before the suspect eventually left the apartment unarmed. Police did not provide any information about the ages of the other people in the apartment.

Authorities said the man was safely taken into custody. It is unclear whether he will face charges over the incident.

Sheltering in place took several hours on Thursday evening.
