Medical assistant charged with inappropriate sexual contact with children – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A North Texas medical assistant is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with patients at Little Spurs Pediatrics in Irving.

Irving police said 25-year-old Angel Nunez worked as a medical assistant at the company between August 2023 and August 2024.

Nunez is charged with one count of indecent contact with a child.

According to the police affidavit, on August 14, a 14-year-old boy came to the Little Spurs in Irving for a sports physical.

On Aug. 30, the boy reported the incident and said Nunez took him to a second exam room away from his mother and told him he needed an eye exam.

Once they were alone in the second exam room, Nunez told the boy, according to the report, that he was going to do a genital test and that the doctor would do one again once the boy was back with his mother.

According to the report, the boy was unaware at the time that anything was wrong with the initial exam.

Police said Nunez tried to hide the fact that he was conducting the exam and was not authorized to do so. They also said there was no medical reason for the examination to be conducted twice during the victim's visit.

Nunez worked as a medical assistant at the company between August 2023 and August 2024.

“As far as we know, part of his duties were to do vital exams and things like that, but he wasn't a doctor himself,” said Detective Padrutt of the Irving Police Department.

In a statement to NBC 5, Little Spurs said they reported the incident to Child Protective Services as soon as they learned of it.

“Little Spurs has been caring for children in the communities we serve for more than 15 years, and we are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all patients and their families. We recently learned that an employee performed a medical procedure that was beyond his or her scope of practice.” As is customary and outside of our established policies, we immediately reported the incident to Child Protective Services, initiated an internal investigation, terminated the employment of the employee in question, and We are cooperating fully with the investigation. At Little Spurs we adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical behavior and are committed to ensuring that all behavior of our employees is consistent with our core values and policies. – Little Spurs Pediatrics

Police said CPS then referred the case to them and Little Spurs was fully co-operative with the investigation.

Police said they now have three victims in Irving, including a 9-year-old and a 15-year-old.

“We currently have three victims, two of whom were undergoing a sports physical exam. And during that sports physical exam, the patient was separated from his parents, it was assumed that this was all part of the exam, and then the defendant had inappropriate sexual contact with the patient,” Padrutt said.

Padrutt said she believes there are more victims.

He said Nunez worked with Irving at Little Spurs locations in Grand Prairie, Arlington and Fort Worth over the past year. Padrutt said Nunez also worked at other medical facilities before Little Spurs.

“Most of our victims are unaware that anything normal happened during the investigation. So if parents could just have those difficult conversations with them and go back and talk to them and say, 'Hey, you were in this doctor's office. What?' Everything happened? What did the doctor do?'” Padrutt said.

He said Irving police alerted other police departments.

“We have notified authorities at these other locations to inform them that this investigation is ongoing and that they may be contacted regarding crimes in their city,” he said.
