Huron County Services are training for a mass casualty incident

Emergency services from across Huron County came together earlier this week to improve collective response capabilities to a simulated school bus crash.

The Mass Casualty Incident exercise took place Tuesday through Thursday at the North Huron Fire Training Grounds in Blyth.

This training exercise involved several first responders, including Huron County OPP, local firefighters and paramedics. Students from the paramedic cooperative and other volunteer students from area secondary schools also took part in the exercise by taking on the role of victims of the accident.

“Effective collaboration between first responders is critical to supporting Huron County residents,” said Emergency Services Director Jeff Horseman. “Comprehensive exercises help our teams better serve and protect our community.”

In a news release, Huron County thanked the North Huron Fire Department for hosting the training, as well as the local youth volunteers who participated and all first responders for the work they do year-round to keep residents safe.
