Former Ball employee accused of stealing city funds after audit

A former Ball city employee was arrested Thursday and accused of stealing money from northern Rapides Parish, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office.

A news release said city officials contacted the sheriff's office on Aug. 29 about “a possible embezzlement of city funds.”

The city conducted an internal review after firing an employee, Shinitria Daniel Gaines, 48. The audit revealed “possible financial discrepancies,” prompting the sheriff’s office to launch an investigation, the release said.
