The pursuit by robbery detectives ends after an accident and shootout in Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida — A wounded man remained hospitalized early Friday morning in Miami-Dade County after a police pursuit ended in a car crash and a shooting.

The pursuit began after Miami-Dade investigators ordered a driver to stop at Northwest 38 Place and 165 Street late Thursday night and the driver refused. The driver then crashed while attempting to elude police officers at Norwest 38 Avenue and 161 Street.

The driver ran away, according to Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department. Police ran after him and arrested him nearby. Rodriguez reported that a shooting occurred at the scene of the accident.

“The civilian driver of the involved vehicle shot one of the victims as the individual approached him with a firearm,” Rodriguez wrote in a statement. “This subject, an adult male, sustained a gunshot wound to one of his arms.”

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded and transported the injured man to Aventura Hospital. Rodriguez said the man was in stable condition.

“Among those arrested was a juvenile male,” Rodriguez wrote.

Investigators asked anyone with information about this or other cases to contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
