Granddaughter of Medgar and Myrlie Evers reported missing in Georgia

The granddaughter of two Mississippi civil rights icons is missing in Georgia.

The family of Medgar and Myrlie Evers have announced that Nicole “Niki” Evers-Everette, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evers and daughter of Reena Evers-Everette, has been living at her home in Duluth since Sunday, September 22nd. GA, is missing.

A statement from the family said they last spoke to her mother, Reena Evers-Everette, on Sunday at 5:55 p.m.

“I am worried and afraid for my daughter Niki,” said Reena Evers-Everette. “We talk regularly and it’s also unusual that I can’t reach her.”

Niki did not report to work this week, which her family says is highly unusual. She doesn't have her cell phone, purse or other personal items with her. Her car was missing from her apartment complex and was last seen Monday evening at Keys Ferry Road & McCart Road in McDonough, Georgia.

“I keep praying that she is fine and comes back to us soon. The timing is critical as Niki has an illness that requires medication that she does not have,” Evers-Everett said. “We are working diligently with law enforcement to locate Niki. We urge everyone to keep their eyes open and report any sightings of Niki or relevant information to the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5700. She has a kind soul, a big heart and a smile that lights up the room. We need all the help we can get to bring her home safely.”
