Singer-songwriter Sayuri dies at 28 – News

The official X (formerly Twitter) Singer's account Sayuri announced on Friday that Sayuri died on September 20th. She was 28 years old. Her relatives and close associates held a private funeral.

Sayuri's husband, musician Amaarashi, said on his X/Twitter Take that into account Sayuri struggled with a chronic illness.

On July 25th earlier this year Sayuri announced that she was taking a break because she suffers from functional dysphonia, a condition that causes a person's voice to sound strained or otherwise irregular without any obvious physiological or neurological reasons for it. At the time, she said she was seeing a speech therapist and vocal coach but was frustrated by her inability to express herself and connect with the world.

Sayuri has been active as a singer and guitarist in the local scene in her hometown Fukuoka since she was a teenager, founded the music duo LONGTAL and performed in small music venues and as a street musician. When she was 19 years old, she made her major solo debut in August 2016 with the single “Mikazuki”, which also served as the closing theme song Rampo Kitan: Laplace game Anime. Since then, she has performed theme songs for other anime, including 2022's “Hana no Tō” (Tower of Flower). Sayuri married musician and singer Amaarashi on March 18 this year.
