15-year-old arrested after threatening Franklin schools

A 15-year-old was arrested Thursday for making a threat at Franklin Community High School.

The threat was reported to the Franklin Police Department Thursday afternoon and investigators began working with Franklin Community School Corp. officials. immediately start the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a 15-year-old high school student was arrested and taken into custody at the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center, a Franklin Police Department news release said.

Police continue to work closely with school officials to ensure a “full and thorough” investigation.

“The Franklin Police Department thanks everyone involved in this investigation and arrest for their assistance. We will continue to work together to ensure the safety of our children and community,” the release said.

Police were unable to provide any further information on the nature of the threat as the investigation is still ongoing.

However, Franklin Police Chief Kirby Cochran stressed that threats are a crime and that police will arrest anyone who makes credible threats and refer charges to the district attorney's office.

This is the third threat incident reported at Franklin schools in a matter of weeks. Another threatening incident was reported to the District Attorney's Office earlier this week, but the student was not arrested at this time.

Other incredible threats based on internet rumors have recently been reported against other school districts, including Center Grove, Clark-Pleasant, Indian Creek and Edinburg. These incidents were part of a wave of school threats that swept across the country and affected many school districts in Indiana.
