Myrtle Beach area under tornado watch. What residents can expect from Hurricane Helene

Horry County residents will feel the effects of Hurricane Helene Friday morning as winds could bring isolated tornadoes, flooding and dangerous surf.

Residents should expect wind gusts of up to 80 km/h and heavy rain with possible flooding.

The NWS says there will be mostly showers and thunderstorms before noon and some of the storms could be severe. A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Horry County.

Nearly 4,000 Horry County residents were without power Friday morning.

Many of these were in the Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach area.
