Kamala Harris is heading to the border today to try to flip the script on Donald Trump's signature issue.

In the Arizona border town of Douglas, Vice President Trump will claim that, despite his escalating rhetoric, he is not serious about addressing challenges at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump and Republicans have relentlessly criticized Harris over the Biden administration's migration record, which hit record highs last year. They place much of the blame on Harris, who they falsely claim was appointed “border czar.”

On Friday, Harris will go on the offensive, accusing Trump of playing politics on an issue that matters most to American voters.

“The American people deserve a president who prioritizes border security over political games,” Harris said in an excerpt of her campaign remarks.

At Trump's urging, Republicans in Congress blocked a comprehensive bipartisan border security package earlier this year that included an asylum crackdown they were seeking. After that failed, Biden issued rules temporarily blocking migrants from seeking asylum at the southern border. Since its introduction, the number of apprehensions at the border has fallen sharply.

Trump said at a rally in North Carolina earlier this week that Harris' credibility at the border was “less than zero.”

Polls have shown that immigration is a top concern for voters nationally and in Arizona, the only swing state that borders Mexico. While immigration remains Trump's top issue, Harris has made some progress, narrowing his lead less than six weeks before Election Day.
