Harry Potter Magic returns to China: All 8 films will be in cinemas from October 11th

The Harry Potter films will be among the major Hollywood productions shown in Chinese cinemas after the October 1, or National Day, holiday.

Potterheads in China are in for a real treat when the Harry Potter films return to theaters. All 8 films in the series will be back in cinemas in China from October 11th. The screening begins with “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” as the first film, with the rest following weekly.

Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio that owns the franchise, told Variety that the films will premiere in around 3,400 theaters in 295 Chinese cities. Potterheads can once again immerse themselves in the world of Hogwarts and see the story of the “Boy Who Lived” once again on the big screen.

“This release marks a significant milestone for the 'Harry Potter' film series, as it marks the first time that all eight films will be available consecutively on such a large scale in any territory,” the studio told Variety.

The films will be shown in 2D format and in IMAX, CINITY and Dolby cinemas.

The Harry Potter films were released between 2001 and 2011, a time when multiplexes were just beginning to emerge in China. For many Chinese cinema lovers, the Harry Potter series was one of the first Western fantasy drama films.

Kurt Rieder, president of APAC theatrical distribution for Warner Bros. Discovery, was quoted by Variety as saying, “However, there is an entire generation of Chinese viewers who have not had the chance to enjoy the 'Harry Potter' films in theaters. He spoke at the APOS media and entrainment conference in Indonesia on Thursday.

November 1st: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

November 15th: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

November 22nd: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

November 29th: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

The films are expected to be among the major Hollywood productions to be shown in Chinese cinemas after the October 1, or National Day, holiday. This is one of the most popular times of the year to watch movies, and this is the time when Chinese tentpole films of all stripes typically dominate the box office.
