Paid sharing on Disney+: What you need to know

Disney+ expanded this week to give its paid sharing program By managing devices within a household, users have the opportunity to enjoy their Disney+ subscription with a family member or friend.

These features and capabilities are now available in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe and Asia Pacific after launching in select markets over the summer.

So what is paid sharing, what does it mean for your account, and how will it impact everything Disney+ has to offer? Here's what you need to know:

How does paid sharing work?

Your Disney+ subscription is for use in your household. This is a collection of devices associated with your primary residence and used by the people living there. But what about people outside your household? You will need to sign up and pay for your own subscription or be added to your account as an additional member for an additional monthly fee to continue enjoying Disney+.

Wait, how do I add someone outside of my household to my subscription?

Account holders who would like to add someone outside of their household to their Disney+ subscription can do so using the Extra Member add-on. For example, in the US, an Extra Member Profile costs an additional $6.99 per month for Disney+ Basic subscriptions and $9.99 per month for Disney+ Premium subscriptions. Please note that only one additional membership spot is available per account*.

*Additional Membership is not currently available to Disney Bundle subscribers or to subscribers billed through our partners.

Is there an alternative to the Extra Member add-on?

As an alternative to the Extra Member, people outside of your household can get their own subscription to watch Disney+. As an account owner, you can transfer an eligible profile to a new subscription or additional member to maintain that profile's Disney+ watch history and settings. Please note that certain profiles – including primary profiles (account holders), minor profiles, and those set to junior mode – cannot be transferred.

Okay, can I watch Disney+ outside of my household?

Yes, when you're away from home or away, you can still watch Disney+ on your supported devices as an account holder or member of your household.

If you are traveling and see the message This television does not appear to be part of the household for this accountYou can mark yourself as I'm not at homeor choose UPDATE BUDGET If you have recently moved and need to reset the household location for your Disney+ subscription. This selection requires a one-time passcode sent to the email address associated with the account.
