Man, 16, Arrested After Pursuit, Crash in Miami Gardens – NBC 6 South Florida

Two people, including a 16-year-old, were arrested Thursday after they allegedly failed to stop for police, led a brief chase and then attempted to flee in Miami Gardens.

It happened around 11:16 p.m., police said, when Miami-Dade Police detectives attempted to stop a Mercedes-Benz sedan in the area of 165th Street and NW 38th Place.

The reason for that initial stop was a traffic violation at NW 37 Avenue and NW 145-150 Street, Miami-Dade police said.

The Mercedes allegedly fled and crashed into another vehicle in the area of 38 Avenue NW 161 Street.

The driver of the Mercedes, identified as 21-year-old Antonio Vance, ran from the collision but was struck nearby, authorities said. Additional officers took the 16-year-old into custody.

Meanwhile, shots were fired from the scene of the accident, police said.

“[Police] would learn that the remaining subjects (investigators are still determining how many there were) were involved in a confrontation with the driver of a civilian vehicle when they approached him armed with firearms. “The civilian driver pulled out a firearm and fired at the individuals, who then ran away,” authorities said.

Another subject, a man, was shot in the arm and taken to Aventura Hospital in stable condition, authorities said.
