England v Australia: Harry Brook scores his first one-day international century and leads the hosts to victory

Due to Jos Buttler's injury, Brook is England's stand-in captain in this series. Three games into his tenure, this innings had all the hallmarks of a cliched captain's knock.

When Phil Salt was caught on a painful eight-ball duck and Ben Duckett missed the point for eight balls, the memories were of England's defeats in the first two games and the struggles in a run of 10 defeats in 14 games in the format large.

However, Brook did what many had asked of England. In his 18th ODI, he took six off his first 13 balls in a composed start. His first shot came only after he had scored 57 points.

That's not to say his innings lacked the strokeplay that has become his trademark. He sent the ball crashing through the offside, also hitting spinner Matt Short for a glorious six over the middle and an upper cut off a rebound from Cameron Green.

Green had Jacks dismissed when he played the same shot after England's number three impressed with his second fifty of the series in a quiet partnership that laid the foundation for England's victory.

When Jamie Smith sent another rebound down the greens, England, helped by the absence of Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa due to illness, still needed 108 from 109 balls, but Livingstone ensured the momentum was finally on until the rain Host came over.

He hit Mitchell Starc for two fours and Sean Abbott for a six in the two overs before the players left the field.
