Six Flags St. Louis is closing Friday as Hurricane Helene passes through

The park said Friday's Fright Fest will not take place due to expected rain and winds from Helene.

EUREKA, Missouri – Hurricane Helene caused widespread damage across the southeastern United States after making landfall late Thursday night, but its effects are still being felt across the country.

Six Flags St. Louis is one such facility facing Helene's remains, so much so that the park announced its closure Friday evening.

“Due to forecast rain from Tropical Storm Helene, Six Flags St. Louis will be closed the evening of September 27th,” the theme park said in a Facebook post. “It turns out that even our freaks don’t like this weather!”

The announcement comes exactly two weeks after the park opened its annual Halloween celebration, Fright Fest. This year's event will be different from previous years due to a new regulatory regime mandated by the park.

The accompanying person must be at least 21 years old and present photo ID with date of birth at the ticket entrance, according to a social media post from the park. The policy is scheduled to go into effect on September 13th and will be in effect on Fright Fest nights from 6:00 p.m. until park closure.

“The safety of our guests and employees has always been our top priority,” the post says. “One companion may accompany no more than 10 guests age 15 or younger per day and must accompany their group upon entry, remain in the park during their visit and be available by telephone throughout their stay.”
