Suspected armed robber arrested after smashing into stores in Kansas and Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The man behind a string of armed robberies over the summer in both Kansas and Missouri has been arrested and remains behind bars.

Probable cause documents filed in Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court indicate that 30-year-old Marquise L. North of Kansas City was arrested and charged with a series of armed robberies.

Kansas City, Missouri, police said that on Saturday, September 21, at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers responded to the Dollar General near 43rd and Troost Ave. with reports of an armed robbery. were called. When they arrived, they found a cashier reporting that a suspect, later identified as North, had entered the store and retrieved a blanket.

When North brought the blanket to the cash register, the cashier told investigators he pointed a gun at her and demanded the cash drawer. She gave it to him and he left, although there was also a tracking device attached to the bottom of the drawer.

Police officers in marked patrol cars said they attempted to stop North in his 2003 Toyota Matrix, but he attempted to drive away at a high rate of speed. A chase that reached speeds of 63 miles per hour on Rockhill Road. as North threw cash out the window. Around $85 was seized along with the tracking device.

Stop sticks were thrown in the area of ​​63rd and Rockhill Rd., which successfully stopped the suspect vehicle, according to KCPD. However, North got out of the vehicle and ran away. Police officers were able to catch up with him behind a gas station in the area, where he was stopped and arrested.

The subsequent investigation revealed that North was behind at least two other robberies – one in Kansas and one in Missouri. Surveillance footage showed North and his Toyota at each crime scene.

Investigators found that North denied all allegations. He was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery stemming from the Missouri robberies.

As of Friday, September 27, North remains behind bars on a $50,000 bond. A bond review hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m., and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m. No further information was released.
