A North Dakota man was arrested for allegedly punching a Washington state trooper

A North Dakota man was recently arrested after he was accused of trying to hit a state trooper on Interstate 90.

Ian Patrick Stewart, 36, of Williston, North Dakota, made his preliminary appearance in Kittitas County Superior Court on Tuesday. He was charged with third-degree assault, harassment, failure to obey a police officer, second-degree careless driving, and illegal parking/stopping on the street and resisting arrest.

Police responded to a two-vehicle collision near milepost 66 on I-90 on Monday.

A trooper says Stewart was sitting in his pickup truck blocking the westbound lanes.

Stewart told police he fell asleep on the way to a family member's house.

He reportedly refused to move his truck off the road and wanted to wait for a family member to arrive.

When the officer reached into the truck to remove it, he allegedly struck the officer.

Stewart was eventually arrested and sent to prison.

His bail is currently set at $5,000.
