“Chucky” canceled by Syfy and USA Network after three seasons

ChuckyThe murderous days are over – at least for now. The series based on the classic horror film franchise will not return for a fourth season on Syfy and USA Network. The news comes four months after part 2 of ChuckyThe third season finale aired on both NBCUniversal cable channels.

Chucky Creator/executive producer Don Mancini wanted to continue the series. In April, he revealed he was planning a fourth season, saying at the time: “It's something I really enjoy doing.” His enthusiasm helped launch the #RenewChucky fan campaign, raising support for the fourth season collected.

Needless to say, today's outcome isn't what he was hoping for, but Mancini, who also created and wrote film franchises, remained calm in his reaction and vowed that this wasn't Chucky's last outing.

“I am heartbroken at the news that Chucky We won't have a fourth season, but I'm so grateful for the great three years we had,” he said. “I want to thank UCP/Syfy/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our amazing cast and Toronto-based crew – the best in the business – and finally a big, bloody hug to our amazing fans. Their incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky's cold heart. Chucky will be back! He ALWAYS comes back.”

This marks the end of an era for Syfy – Chucky was the last quality UCP-produced original scripted series on the network. The other, resident alien, recently moved to the US with a significant budget cut.

Amid the sobering reality of the ad-supported cable business in the age of cable scarcity, Syfy now relies on Canadian (SurrealEstate, what is coming Revival) and modest-budget independent productions like those from Electric Entertainment The bowfor his original screenplay offerings.

Chucky was one of the signs of what was to come – Syfy originally gave it the green light, it was eventually shared with the US so the two networks could cover the costs.

As for the US, after phasing out its scripted originals in recent years, the network is back in the game with budget-conscious “Blue Sky” procedurals that harken back to the network's heyday with hits like… Monk, psychiatrist, suits And White collar. The first series under the initiative is the upcoming one The rainmaker, based on the novel by John Grisham.

ChuckyThe series follows the murderous escapades of the infamous killer doll. Chucky's paths cross paths with arch-enemies, old allies, and new prey as he seeks to spread fear and chaos everywhere he goes.

In Season 3, Chucky's endless thirst for power saw him join the most powerful family in the world – America's First Family, within the infamous walls of the White House. How did Chucky end up here? What in God's name does he want? And how can Jake (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Björgvin Arnarson) and Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind) reach Chucky in the safest building in the world while juggling the pressures of romantic relationships and growing up? Meanwhile, Tiffany faced a crisis of her own as police closed in on her for Jennifer Tilly's murderous rampage last season.

Chucky was produced by UCP and the executive producers were Don Mancini, Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, David Kirschner and Jeff Renfoe.
