A Glenview man is behind bars for allegedly attacking a victim with a metal pipe and using a racial slur during a fight several months ago.

Randy Velleff, 69, was arrested at the police station at 9:20 a.m. Friday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and hate crimes, according to the Glenview Police Department.

His allegations stem from a June 30 incident in the 1700 block of Grove Street.

According to police, Velleff struck a victim with a metal pipe during an altercation in a parking lot. He is also accused of using a racist insult towards the victim.

The victim was taken to Glenbrook Hospital where he was treated for bruising and later released.

Velleff has a conditions hearing scheduled for Sept. 28 at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

Glenview police said it was a “targeted, isolated incident” and there was no known threat to the public.
