LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — NBA All-Star and former University of Kentucky standout Karl-Anthony Towns is helping build a basketball facility in the Dominican Republic.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star is partnering with GO Ministries and the World Youth Club to lead the construction of a state-of-the-art facility to provide training and recreational opportunities for young athletes in Santiago, Dominican Republic.

“I am excited to partner with GO Ministries/WYC to create a facility where children can play basketball and provide a platform to learn life skills, develop character and achieve their dreams,” Towns said in a press release on Friday.

Towns' mother was from the Dominican Republic and he said his heritage inspired him to give back to the country he considers a second home.

“The Dominican Republic has given me so much and this is my way of giving back,” he said.
