How George and Amal Clooney Celebrate Their 10th Anniversary (Exclusive)

George and Amal Clooney have plans – “somewhere” – to celebrate a very special day.

The happy couple, who married on September 27, 2014, teased celebrating their 10th anniversary in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE on September 26 at The Albies, their annual event in New York City hosted by the Clooney Foundation for Justice -year anniversary would be celebrated.

“I'm going somewhere with her tonight,” says George, 63, when asked on the red carpet how the two are celebrating. He encourages 46-year-old Amal to smile and adds: “But she doesn’t know where.”

The Oscar winner's mystery date likely took place after The Albies, which took place at the New York Public Library. For the occasion, George kept it classic, wearing a tailored black tuxedo, white shirt and black bow tie, while the British human rights lawyer wore a black floor-length Versace dress with a sweetheart neckline.

Named after Judge Albie Sachs for his role in ending apartheid in South Africa, the Clooneys' star-studded event aims to “shine a protective spotlight on courageous rights defenders who are in danger – and send a message to those who are violate human rights in the world. “Watch,” says the official website.

“I would support anything my wife was involved in,” George tells PEOPLE about the awards show. “She’s always on the right side of history and I’m always so proud to be in the same room with her, no matter what.”

He adds that the third annual Albies “focuses all the attention on the people who don't get enough attention.” For a couple who have made defending justice the mission of the foundation they founded in 2016, an evening in honor could be by fighters for social justice will be the perfect evening for an anniversary.

George and Amal got married in grand style in Italy in 2014. At the historic Aman Canal Grande Hotel in Venice, the couple exchanged vows with 100 close friends and family in a traditional ceremony presided over by their friend, former mayor of Rome Walter Veltroni.

“It feels f***ing amazing,” George told PEOPLE about becoming a husband.

Earlier this month, the couple, who share seven-year-old twins Alexander and Ella, made another appearance in Italy at the premiere of George's new film at the Venice Film Festival Wolves (now in theaters and on Apple TV+). There they hung out with George's frequent co-star Brad Pitt and his girlfriend Ines de Ramon.

George's upcoming film projects include an untitled film directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Eve Hewson, Adam Sandler and Billy Crudup.
