Trump criticizes Harris over data showing nearly 15,000 illegal immigrants in the U.S. have been charged or convicted of murder

Former President Donald Trump on Friday blamed Vice President Kamala Harris for the shocking number of migrants living in the U.S. illegally who have been convicted or charged with murder.

Trump, 78, called federal data showing more than 15,000 illegal immigrants have been charged or convicted of murder the “worst numbers I've ever heard” during a town hall event in Warren, Michigan, before addressing Democrats criticized candidate for president.

“This was all done by Comrade Kamala Harris,” the former president said. “Our great border czar, who is incompetent, who is completely incompetent.”

Data provided to Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement shows that as of July 21, there were 662,566 non-citizens with criminal histories on ICE's national file, including 13,099 convicted of murder and 1,845 with pending murder cases.

ICE is currently holding 277 migrants convicted of murder and 51 facing such charges, the agency said, suggesting those people likely face deportation.

“They have all been released into our country,” Trump said. “And we can’t put up with that.”

“This is gross incompetence,” the 45th president added.

“What a day for the border,” Trump said of Harris' Friday trip to the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona.

Trump's remarks in the Wolverine State focused on the auto industry and his proposal to impose sweeping new tariffs if he is elected to a second term in the White House.

He argued that by imposing tariffs on Chinese automobiles made in Mexico but destined for the United States, American automobile production would boom to “levels we haven't seen in 50 years.”

“[Chinese automakers] I think they're going to make the cars and sell them here and close Detroit, close everything in this area, close South Carolina – and that's not going to happen because we're going to put very high tariffs on these cars “I'm coming across the border”, said Trump.

“We will not allow it,” he added.

Trump returned to the issue of immigration and attacked Harris at the end of the town hall. He called the vice president someone “who is always complaining and doing nothing.”

“She's at the border today,” Trump remarked, referring to Harris' first trip to the U.S.-Mexico border as the Democratic presidential candidate. “What a day for the border.”
