3 charged with attempted murder over gas station shooting

Three people are in custody and charged with attempted murder following a shooting in Minneapolis that reportedly left two people injured.

Deshawn Marvelle Leondra Slaughter, 36, Corey Davis Jr., 35, and Duprece Lashae Sahila Slaughter Jr., 18, were charged with second-degree murder Friday in Hennepin District Court.

All three face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

The trio is accused of shooting another person at an Arco gas station at 640 Lake Street in East Minneapolis on Sept. 13.

Charging documents say the three were part of a group of six people, five men and one woman, who followed a man into the gas station store and approached him.

The group got “very close” to the man, with one of the group members seen pulling out a gun close to the man’s face.

The man left the store and was making his way to his vehicle when one of the group members produced a gun and began shooting at him. Two other group members also pulled out a gun and began shooting at the man, according to charging documents.

An estimated 23 to 25 shots were heard on surveillance video.

After the three stopped shooting, all six group members left the gas station in two vehicles.

The indictment states that two people were injured in the shooting. The man who was reportedly approached by the group inside the store was “shot multiple times,” while another person sitting in the man's vehicle was shot once in the leg.

Police said they recognized one of the group members as Corey Davis Jr. and were able to identify five of the six other people in the group using his social media page.

Police said they were also able to identify two of the suspected shooters and said one of them was Deshawn Marvelle Leondra Slaughter. They also say that Duprece Lashae Sahila Slaughter Jr. was also seen on camera as a member of the six-member group.

The trio's first court appearance took place on Friday at 1:30 p.m
