Angelina Jolie drops FBI lawsuit over 2016 plane crash involving Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie has reportedly dropped her legal battle against the US Department of Justice and the FBI over documents related to an alleged 2016 plane accident involving her then-husband and actor Brad Pitt.

The 49-year-old requested access to FBI records in 2021 through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. However, according to court documents obtained by People, Jolie ended the case on Wednesday (September 25).

The documents Jolie pursued involved an alleged altercation on a private plane in 2016 between a reportedly drunk Pitt and Jolie. The incident occurred just days before Jolie filed for divorce. The couple tied the knot in 2005.

The two have six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Vivienne and Knox, who were reportedly present at the incident, which ultimately led to an investigation by the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services and the FBI.

Allegations emerged that Pitt had verbally abused and physically assaulted one of the children. However, Pitt has consistently denied these claims. As of late 2016, both the FBI and DCFS have cleared Pitt of any wrongdoing and no charges have been filed.

The legal battle over the alleged plane accident flared up again amid the couple's ongoing dispute over their French winery, Château Miraval. In 2022, Jolie's legal team responded to a lawsuit from Pitt, which also included allegations that Pitt physically assaulted two of her children during the 2016 flight. A source close to Pitt dismissed these claims, calling them “completely untrue.”
