Woman arrested for allegedly using checks stolen from friend

A local probation officer was arrested Thursday on felony charges stemming from allegations that she stole business checks from a friend's home and later forged them.

Jessica Adrian Crumpton, 27, who lists an address as Charming Heights Drive, was taken into custody by Garland County sheriff's deputies just after 1:30 p.m. on Highway 70 near the county line, where she was turned over to Arkansas State Police who had previously arrested her on two counts of second-degree forgery, each punishable by up to six years in prison.

Crumpton, who also had a warrant for his arrest for probation violations, was being held under zero bond and was scheduled to appear in Garland County District Court on Friday.

According to court records, she was convicted of forgery on May 13, 2022 and sentenced to six years of supervised probation. In 2021, she was previously convicted of misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing government business.

According to the probable cause affidavit for Thursday's arrest, a local man filed a report with the GCSO on June 26th alleging that a known suspect, identified as Crumpton, came to his residence on June 21st to his Use solarium.

On June 25, the man noticed that two checks had been cashed from his business account, one for $350 and one for $250. He noted that both checks had been cashed after being made out to Crumpton.

Sheriff's investigator Charlie Mowery requested a subpoena from the bank for the business account of the victim's company and received a response on Aug. 7 confirming that both checks had been made out to Crumpton.

It was determined that none of the checks were negotiated through the victim's bank, but rather through a bank in Chicago. The victim discovered that he did not authorize or issue any of the checks, and a warrant was later issued for Crumpton's arrest.
