Coca-Cola is investing $25 million in the West Memphis plant

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (WMC) – One of America's most iconic companies, Coca-Cola, is building more roots in West Memphis with an influx of cash to expand its operations.

West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon said the $25 million investment would be a major contribution to the advancement of their city.

“If we can provide jobs for the people in our community so that they can provide for their families, that is a good thing. “So we thank Coca-Cola for their continued growth,” said McClendon.

The investment will increase the bottling plant's capacity from 26 million cases to 29 million cases per year and increase the number of jobs in the community.

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said this investment is thanks to partnerships and that the state is doing everything it can to not only attract new businesses but also grow existing ones.

“We're investing in our workforce, we're investing in education and making sure we have all the pieces necessary for a business to come here and thrive and be successful, and we're proud that people continue to call Arkansas home.” said Sanders.

Arkansas was the first state to enforce land restrictions on foreign ownership, and Sanders said getting an all-American company like Coca-Cola to invest was huge for the state.

“This is a company that truly cares about its employees and families and represents our country. To see them in action here in Arkansas – it’s a great day and we’re proud to have them in the state,” Sanders said.
