Pedestrian accident in downtown Boston leaves three people injured and a sushi shop damaged – NBC Boston

Three people are recovering after an accident caused one of the vehicles to crash into a sushi restaurant in downtown Boston.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Tremont and Stuart Streets in Boston's busy theater district. Witnesses reported that two vehicles collided, with one driving into the Genki Ya restaurant.

“Just chaos,” said Dylan Stevens, who watched the scene from his hotel window.

Boston police said three pedestrians were struck by the vehicle, but witnesses told NBC10 Boston that two pedestrians and the driver of the SUV that hit the restaurant were injured.

“He was sitting in the front seat and got stuck,” said witness Alex Simpson, who used a pocket knife to cut open the driver's airbag. “He didn’t respond to any of our questions.”

Two people were taken to nearby hospitals, police said. The injuries of all three victims are not considered life-threatening.

No one was injured inside the restaurant, which has significant damage including broken tiles, cracks and shattered glass.

“It’s definitely going to hurt,” said Nick Cheung, whose family owns the restaurant. “Who knows when, but we’ll build on it.”

Witnesses who were just steps away from the crash site are thankful they narrowly missed the accident.

“I thank my luck that I wasn’t sitting there 15 seconds ago,” Andrew Denney said. “I was literally there in the middle of the interaction.”

Investigators have not said whether charges could be filed against any of the drivers involved in the crash.
