Added Detroit Pistons pick in Karl Anthony-Towns blockbuster trade

On Friday night, the NBA saw another blockbuster deal this offseason involving the New York Knicks.

Accordingly The Athletics Shams Charania, the Knicks acquire Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl Anthony-Towns. All-Star forward Julius Randle and veteran sharpshooter Donte DiVincenzo are expected to be included in the deal.

In addition to the players, the Knicks are also adding a draft pick to the mix. Accordingly The athletethe pick comes from the Detroit Pistons.

While the Pistons and Knicks negotiated a deal in the 2023-2024 NBA season, New York did not receive the pick directly from Detroit.

The Pistons moved the first-round pick with a protection in 2020. The selection helped the Pistons acquire their current veteran forward Isaiah Stewart.

The Houston Rockets initially owned the pick, but a year later they traded him to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Then OKC traded it to the Knicks the following offseason.

Now it's in the hands of the Timberwolves.

Minnesota has been quite active on the trade market since they recognized the potential of young star Anthony Edwards. A few summers ago, the Timberwolves made a blockbuster deal for veteran center Rudy Gobert. The Gobert-Edwards Towns trio's first year didn't impress the league, but their second year was a step in the right direction.

Last year, the Timberwolves finished third in the Western Conference with a record of 56-26. They placed just one game behind the first seeded team. After winning two series in the playoffs, the Timberwolves fell to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals. They've come a long way – but they won't take it back.

Towns will get a chance to compete with the Knicks, who finished second in the Eastern Conference last year. While they knocked the Philadelphia 76ers out of the playoffs in the first round, New York fell to the Indiana Pacers before reaching the Eastern Conference Finals.

Both teams completed the deal by hiring a buyer and with an NBA title on their minds.

In the meantime, the Pistons will continue to patiently wait to see what happens with their top-13 protected pick, which has yet to be announced.
