Moorhead man charged with theft at Detroit Lakes Walmart – Detroit Lakes Tribune

DETROIT LAKES – Waldern Roger Lacroix, 49, of Moorhead, was charged with theft in Becker County District Court.

According to court documents, on the morning of December 3, 2023, in a Detroit Lakes Walmart asset protection video, Lacroix was seen loading a shopping cart with various items from the store, including multiple trail cameras, camping items, knives, laundry pods, a baby monitor, speakers and other car accessories, toys, Christmas decorations, batteries and a scented gift set.

Lacroix then pushed the cart into the cosmetics department before carrying it through the fire door. He ran out the door, losing a trail camera, and parked the car in row 11 of the parking lot.

He then ran across the parking lot to the vehicle he had arrived in, which was parked in row two, where two other people, who were also charged, were loading other goods into the vehicle.

Then they drove to row 11 and all three unloaded the goods from the cart that Lacroix had pushed out the fire door before leaving. The scent gift set was left in the trunk of a nearby vehicle and recovered along with the fallen trail camera. The unpaid goods taken by Lacroix were valued at $1,467.

His next court date is scheduled for October 28, 2024 before District Judge Michelle W. Lawson.

Fargo man convicted of aggravated domestic violence near Detroit Lakes

Todd Anthony Belland Jr., 34, of Fargo, was convicted in Becker County District Court of aggravated domestic violence.

A second charge of domestic violence and a charge of first-degree criminal damage to property were dropped in a plea agreement.

According to court records, on the evening of March 26, Becker County officers responded to a report of an active assault at a location on Old Pit Road in Detroit Lakes.

Upon arrival, an officer heard a woman screaming, then a man screaming and then glass breaking. The woman's voice came from a parked vehicle whose windows were smashed. The officer saw Belland walking away and arrested him.

Belland said he got into an argument with his girlfriend in the RV and urged her to get her out of the RV “before the situation got worse.”

He stated that she threatened to damage his brother's vehicle and that she got into her vehicle to leave but came back. He said he then kicked out her taillight and used a golf club and a wooden brick to break the vehicle's windows while she sat inside. He admitted to having a methamphetamine pipe in his possession.

An officer spoke to the woman in her vehicle. She was shaken and crying, saying Belland was her boyfriend and he was mad at her and accused her of cheating. She said he punched her twice in the face and damaged her vehicle while she was in it.

On July 23, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced him to 18 months in prison in St. Cloud, with five years remaining.

He was sentenced to 69 days in prison, with credit for 69 days served, and was fined $500 plus $160 in court costs.

He was ordered not to drink or use drugs, to undergo a comprehensive examination, domestic abuse assessment and diagnostic evaluation and to follow all recommendations, including follow-up care. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.

He is now accused of violating his probation and has a probation violation hearing scheduled for Nov. 25.
