Norwich man arrested for possession of a large amount of fentanyl and a firearm

NORWICH, CT (WFSB) – A 45-year-old man was arrested Friday morning after police discovered large amounts of fentanyl and a firearm in his home.

The Connecticut State Police Violent Task Force East Office, along with the Norwich Police Department's detective and patrol divisions, executed a narcotics-related search and seizure warrant at a home in the Taftville neighborhood of Norwich.

During the search, authorities seized 15.4 grams of fentanyl, an illegally possessed semi-automatic handgun and a significant amount of cash.

The suspect, Anthony VonWinkle, 45, of Norwich, is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior conviction.

He is now facing multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell, criminal possession of a firearm and violating a protective order.

VonWinkle was taken into custody and is being held on a $200,000 bond. He was assigned a court date at Norwich Superior Court.
