Woman was arrested for identity fraud while trying to get a loan

SALT LAKE CITY — A woman is in prison after she allegedly committed identity fraud and then used the other woman's identity to get a loan from Mountain America Credit Union.

Police said Mackenzie Hacker used a fake ID with another woman's name and photo to open an account at the credit union. She then tried to take out a loan in her name, but the branch rejected the loan.

Mountain America contacted the police, who identified the hacker based on photos from surveillance cameras. She has no ties to Utah and is living homeless in California, police said.

“The hacker knowingly entered the bank pretending to be the victim. Hacker admitted to being involved in a fraud organization that traveled throughout Utah. The hacker has no ties to Utah and poses a flight risk due to her ties to fraudulent IDs,” police said in a probable cause statement.

Hacker is charged with identity fraud and communications fraud, both felonies.
