Third suspect arrested in Rena St. murder case

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – A third suspect wanted in a fatal robbery that occurred on Rena Street this month turned himself in Friday.

Lake Charles Police Department (LCPD) jail reports indicate that 17-year-old Maalik Marquese Brignac was taken into custody around 10 p.m. Friday evening and charged with first-degree murder. His bail was set at $900,000.

The three suspects attempted to rob 29-year-old Jeremy Jamal Ware at his Rena Street home on Friday, Sept. 13, said LCPD Deputy Chief Kevin Kirkum.

The suspects shot Ware and he was taken to a hospital where he later died, Kirkum said.

The LCPD SWAT team arrested 17-year-old Water Curtis Jr. on Sept. 18 at his home near the scene of the shooting, Kirkum said. A 16-year-old suspect was arrested on September 24th.

Curtis is charged with robbery with a firearm. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.

The 16-year-old faces a charge of first-degree murder.
