Two suspects were arrested for serious crime

SAN ANTONIO – Two suspects arrested Friday are accused in a series of violent robberies on the North Side.

Police announced the arrest of Austin Mendoza, 20, and Marcelo Ojeda, 19, suspected of three robberies that took place on Friday.

Around noon, police responded to calls about a robbery at Rolling Oaks Mall. The two suspects allegedly came to a jewelry store in the mall and waited for it to open.

After being in the store for 45 minutes, Mendoza allegedly grabbed several pieces of jewelry and fled to a vehicle with Ojeda.

A victim attempted to confront the two, which led to a fight that ended with the victim being injured with an unknown object and the two suspects fleeing the mall.

Just three hours later, police responded to aggravated assault calls at Ingram Park Mall. Both suspects were reportedly seen attempting to break into vehicles.

The two then ran through the mall, got into the same vehicle they allegedly used to flee the Rolling Oaks robbery, and pointed a handgun at a mall security guard and threatened to kill him as they fled.

Two hours later, at 5 p.m., police responded to calls about an aggravated robbery at a convenience store near Ingram Park Mall, at the corner of Wurzbach Road and Crystal Hill.

Mendoza reportedly entered the store, grabbed items from the supermarket and left the store without paying. When a local employee tried to confront him in the parking lot, Ojeda allegedly brandished a handgun and threatened to kill him.

As police were on their way to the store, the suspect's vehicle broke down and the two suspects had to flee on foot. Officers eventually found the two and after a short foot pursuit, Mendoza was captured without incident.

Ojeda was also arrested a short time later with the support of EAGLE.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call San Antonio police at (210) 207-7273.
