Conor McGregor reveals secret talks about an MMA fight with top pound-for-pound boxing star in unprecedented two-fight deal

Conor McGregor has claimed he was offered a sensational two-fight contract with one of boxing's biggest names at the moment, which included a fight inside the Octagon.

The UFC legend showed off his skills in 2017 when he stepped into the ring to take on the legendary Floyd Mayweather in a rare crossover fight. Since then there has been a longing to see him back in the ring and he has rejoined his childhood Crumlin Boxing Club.

He lost that fight to Mayweather after an impressive ten rounds and now insists he will only accept a similar deal if he is allowed to fight the boxer in the UFC octagon. And he now says he has held talks about a possible two-fight contract against pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford.

Conor McGregor details detailed 'multimillion dollar' fight talks with Terence Crawford

Last weekend, Conor McGregor attended the duel between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois at Wembley Arena and met Crawford and boxing superstar Turki Alalsheikh at ringside. The couple chatted briefly and it appeared an argument broke out between the two.

“Crawford is very skilled, he also has a wrestling background,” McGregor noted during a recent kick stream for Duelbits. “You know they always talk to me about seizures. I have already boxed a boxer and the best boxer in MMA is me.

“I earn the most [money]. We talked back and forth about a two-fight deal. The day after the fight he calls Crawford in front of me. I answer the phone and say, “Crawford, they’re talking about you and me; Two-fight deal, first MMA, then boxing.

“I know you have an extensive wrestling background and balls the size of a Bengal tiger. They demand a fight, there will be hundreds of millions at stake. “What’s going on?” I said and then he said: “I don’t feel like kicking Conor McGregor,” he said. You have to respect that.”

Terence Crawford's promoters offered Conor McGregor a two-fight deal back in 2020

It seems to be a different tune for Crawford than it was for him and his team back in 2021, when they were apparently interested in striking a two-fight deal. The boxer's trainers were confident that he could win both fights and earn big money in the process.

After headlining against Egidijus “Mean Machine” Kavaliauskas at Madison Square Garden in December 2019, promoter Bob Arum proposed a deal for the pair to compete first in the cage and then in the ring.

“In Terence Crawford, you have an elite boxer fighting under MMA rules against an elite MMA guy in Conor McGregor,” Arum told ESPN at the time.

“Don’t you think that would be interesting and something the public would want to see?” I find it very realistic. Whenever they are ready, we are ready. We would do the MMA fight first if that’s what they want.”

Conor McGregor plans UFC comeback in 2025 after losing fight against Michael Chandler

After spending two years building up a fight with Michael Chandler, McGregor missed his chance to fight the American this year. They were scheduled to meet at UFC 303 in Las Vegas, but the Irishman suffered a broken toe that forced him out of the event.

Now Chandler faces another clash with Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 as he decides to walk away from the fight after all this time. Meanwhile, McGregor noted on the DAZN show last week that he is now unlikely to compete in 2024.

“It will be 2025,” he replied to Ariel Helwani’s question. “We'll see. My opponent I had planned was matched, it is what it is. I accept it and keep rocking. My job is to go to the gym and be in shape. Whenever it is and wherever it is, I will be 100 percent ready.”

He is keen to keep Chandler as his opponent despite his fight with Oliveira being booked. When asked who his next opponent would be, he replied: “Who knows, it doesn’t matter. Whoever, let's see. I like being Chandler. I wish him all the best and will see where it goes.”
