Bobby Petrino of the Hogs knows the Aggies players before the Southwest Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino followed the Razorbacks last year. Petrino, the Texas A&M Aggies' 2023 offensive coordinator, outgained the Hogs 414-174 yards in a 34-22 win. It was the largest margin of victory at the Southwest Classic since 2016.

To the relief of Hogs fans, Petrino will be on the Razorbacks' sidelines this year, but many of the Texas A&M offensive players he used to dismantle the Hogs last fall have returned. Aggies running back Le'Veon Moss was the game's leading rusher in 2023, accumulating 107 yards on 17 carries.

“There is such a thing as no [extra] Motivation, but I want to beat somehow [Petrino] a little bit,” Moss said. “I want to win every game, but this is just one game I want to win.”

Tight end Theo Melin Öhrström, who caught a touchdown pass in consecutive weeks, expressed many of the same sentiments about Petrino.

“I just remember it was a good attack,” Melin Öhrström said. “He’s a great coach and
I have great respect for him.

Petrino detailed what it was like working at Texas A&M under former head coach Jimbo Fisher in his introductory press conference.

“Jimbo wanted to keep the same terminology and name things the same way as before,” Petrino said. “It was difficult. It was hard for me. I stayed awake all night. I remember staying up all night just to prepare for the first battle.”

Petrino will now call his own plays for the Razorbacks against a team he knows very well. The Razorbacks will face the Aggies for the final time at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Kick-off is scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
