Hughesville woman killed in Route 15 crash | News, sports, jobs

BUTTONWOOD — Betty M. Little, 83, of Hughesville, was killed Friday evening in a fiery two-vehicle crash on Route 15, about three miles north of here, according to state police.

Little was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox southbound in the right lane of the four-lane highway when she lost control of the SUV on a right-hand curve around 7:50 p.m., police said.

Her vehicle went over the fast lane and into the median, hit a ditch, then rolled over and hit a guide cable, police said.

The Equinox continued to roll over into the left northbound lane, where it collided with a northbound 2010 Ford pickup truck driven by Joseph Friel IV, 32, of Millerton, Tioga County, police said.

Both vehicles came to a stop on the left shoulder of Route 15 North, police said. Airbags were deployed in both vehicles, police said. Little was not wearing a seatbelt, but Friel was, police said.

Debris from the Equinox struck a 2013 Volvo driven by Susan Sticklin of Wellsboro, but she was not injured, police said.

Little was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport, where she died of multiple injuries in the emergency room around 10 p.m., according to a Lycoming County deputy coroner.

Friel refused treatment, police said.

Firefighters from Liberty and an ambulance team from Blossburg responded to the scene.
