Fatal truck accident causes detour in Greenfield

The Greenfield Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that caused a closure near eastbound Interstate 894. Officers responded to the accident near West Layton Avenue and found a tractor-trailer hitting another car and a utility pole. According to police, the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The 59-year-old truck driver from Texas was uninjured and is cooperating with investigators. Officials said the current detour route to West Layton Avenue for the I-894 eastbound highway closure has now been changed. Motorists must now use West Coldspring Road east from South 108th Street and continue south on South 92nd Street to West Layton Avenue. The cause The reason for the crash is unknown.
