Teen arrested after investigation into social media threats in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT – (WFSB) – A juvenile was arrested following an investigation into a threat made over social media in Fairfield on Tuesday.

According to police, Fairfield Public Schools alerted the school community to possible student activity at SeptemberFest at Assumption Church on Sept. 13.

The district reported that a group of students may have planned to meet at the event to engage in a physical altercation.

Fairfield Police immediately began a joint investigation with the county into the matter.

The threat was found to be unreliable and posed no threat to the public. Out of an abundance of caution, there was an increased police presence in the area.

On Tuesday, they identified the youth who held the position as a middle school-aged student in the district. The student was then arrested.

“Fairfield Police would like to make it clear that any threat or dangerous behavior, regardless of intent, is taken very seriously. Such actions are not only illegal but also endanger the safety and well-being of the entire community,” police said in a statement. “Anyone found responsible or complicit in these activities – whether by creating, sharing, reposting or otherwise perpetuating threats of violence – will be held accountable by both law enforcement and the school district.”
