Police identify woman killed in Nampa crash; Driver charged with negligent homicide

Nampa police arrested a 24-year-old man after a car crash killed a woman Friday night, police said in a news release.

The woman, 26-year-old Brook Taylor, was taken to the hospital where she died, police said.

The two-car crash occurred near N. Middleton Road and Smith Avenue.

“A young woman lost her life last night because a young man chose to drive while impaired. “In today’s world with so many driving options, there is no excuse for his decision to get behind the wheel,” Nampa Police Chief Joe Huff said. “Today, Ms. Taylor’s friends and family must grapple with the harsh reality of life without her.”

The other driver, Shaeden Robinson, was taken to the hospital, treated and released into police custody, police said. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and aggravated drunken driving, police said. His arraignment was not yet available in the state's court records system.

In August, Robinson was charged with driving without privileges and no car insurance.

Court records show he has been charged and convicted multiple times for driving without a license or without a valid driver's license.

According to the Idaho Department of Transportation, 1,708 impaired driving crashes were reported in 2023, a 5% decrease from the previous year. The estimated economic cost of impaired crashes in Idaho was over $1.67 billion last year.

According to Canyon County, the penalty for aggravated DUI is up to 15 years in prison, a $5,000 fine, a five-year driver's license suspension and restitution.

For involuntary manslaughter, the penalty is up to 15 years in prison, a $15,000 fine, an indefinite driver's license suspension, restitution, and possible child support for the deceased person's children.
