Virginia mother is frustrated three years after her son's old murder case

PETERSBURG, Va. – Ta'Sean Greene's family is still seeking justice nearly three years after his murder.

Greene was shot near Poplar Street and Bedford Avenue in Petersburg in November 2021.

His family continues to question who killed the 24-year-old, who dreamed of going to school, starting a family and living independently.

“He was the life of the party. He lit up a room,” said Latarsha Greene, Ta’Sean’s mother. “He wanted to go to Atlanta to go to school. He wanted to have children. He wanted to get married and move out on his own.”

Greene's death has devastated his family, who are reeling from the loss.

“Every day that passes we think of Ta'Sean. I miss Ta’Sean,” his grandmother said. “Ta'Sean and I would always go to fast food and eat together. He really enjoyed that. He was excited for me to come over to give him a ride and we just laughed and had a good time.”

Ta'Sean was shot and killed on November 19, 2021 – the day before Ms. Greene's birthday. Since then, her birthday has been overshadowed by the memory of his tragic death.

“He was leaving the store when someone shot him and he died,” she said.

The constant change of investigators on Ta'Sean's case also contributes to the family's frustration. Ms. Greene says they are now on their fourth detective in three years. She hopes to see better communication and consistency from law enforcement.

“We haven’t heard anything,” she said. “The last detective who looked like he was making room was put back on patrol and is now a street cop. That was the most frustrating thing. Nobody had any contact with me, nobody had any contact with me.”

Ms Greene hopes the person responsible for her son's murder will be found and brought to justice.

“I hope they can find the killer out there,” his grandmother said. “I hope that person manages to get off the streets because, honestly, you might be looking at someone without knowing who you're looking at. You could look at who murdered him, and that person could be looking for another victim.
