Jalen Milroe jumps to the top of the Heisman Trophy rankings after a strong first quarter against Georgia

Jalen Milroe is the new front-runner in Vegas for the 2024 Heisman Trophy.

That's the score at 12:24 in the second quarter on Saturday in Tuscaloosa. Milroe has officially surpassed Miami quarterback Cam Ward in most sportsbooks and is the frontrunner in the Heisman odds after leading Alabama to a 28-0 lead over the No. 2 Bulldogs. Milroe scored two rushing touchdowns in the first half and is also a perfect 9-on-9 passer.

According to FanDuel, Milroe is listed at +170 to win the award as of this writing. However, these odds are fluid and will likely continue to change as the night progresses. Ward is +500 as of this writing.

It's a huge change in odds for Milroe, who started the week at +750 on FanDuel. In addition to Ward, he was also behind Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart in most sports betting.

There's still a long way to go, but Milroe would become the fifth player in Alabama football history to win the Heisman if he receives the award at the end of the season. The others are Mark Ingram, Derrick Henry, DeVonta Smith and Bryce Young. All Alabama Heisman winners have come since the 2009 season.

Milroe entered this game with a TD-to-INT ratio of 8-0 in Alabama's previous three contests. Before that Week 5 matchup against UGA, he had also rushed for 156 yards and six more scores on the ground.

Milroe is looking for its second straight win against the Bulldogs after defeating Georgia in the SEC Championship Game last season.
